How to adopt a designer

It's not easy making it as a successful fashion designer; being talented sometimes just isn't enough. We'd like to see more great new designers flourishing.

If you feel the same way, here's how you can help to make it happen:

DESIGNERS

Put yourself up for adoption

After you've registered, tick the adoption box in your Account pages.

Then tell the world why you're worth adopting in your biography.

Sell your fashion

Upload images and text of your existing collections and set the buying price. It's currently free to post your work, so we'll only take a charge when you make a sale. Your customers will leave feedback after the transaction so that future customers can build trust in you.

Get adopted

Attract supporters who'll back your career. You'll need 5,000 supporters paying 14 Euros each to hit your adoption target of 70,000 Euros. Check your progress through your Account pages.

We'll keep all of the funding in a separate designated account while the designer's adoption is in progress. We'll benefit from any interest that it earns, but we won't use any of the balance.

Design your new collection

When you hit the adoption target, you'll have 6 months to design and prepare a new collection of 4 to 7 items, using the 70,000 Euros funding that your supporters have contributed.

You'll have full creative control within that budget and if you need one, we'll appoint a mentor to help you manage the production process. The funding should cover everything from samples and materials to production and distribution.

The precise way that the funding is split will be agreed with you as soon as you've reached the target, but both you and your supporters will be able to track how it's being spent throughout the process.

Give something back

Share your profits with your supporters! For every item sold from the adopted collection, all profits will be split so that 30% goes to you, 30% goes to us and 30% goes to the supporters.

The remaining 10% is set aside for our affiliate programme...

Make the extra 10%

Sign up to our affiliate programme and earn a further 10% of the value of each item that is sold from your own web pages.

SUPPORTERS

Find your new favourite designer on catwalkgenius.com

Browse the shop to check out the collections of our designers. Read their biography information on their profile pages and choose your favourite.

Buy an element of their adoption

Pay 14 Euros (plus 1 Euro processing fee) to secure 1 of 5,000 'elements' in that designer's adoption. You can adopt multiple elements in any number of designers.

If you change your mind, you can switch allegiances to another designer or withdraw your element and get a refund (minus a 1 Euro processing fee) at any point up until your designer reaches their adoption target of 70,000 Euros.

Keep track of your elements and your designer's progress through your Account pages.

Spread the word

Use your personal web pages and social networking profiles to encourage more people to adopt your designer. That way you'll increase your designer's chances of hitting their adoption target.

Share the wealth

Once all 5,000 elements have sold, your adopted designer will hit their fund target of 70,000 Euros. Within 6 months of that point, they'll create a new collection with the costs covered by the adoption fund.

Once the collection's ready, you'll get an exclusive limited edition design from your designer as a reward for your confidence in them.

Then, for each item that is sold from the collection, all profits will be split so that 30% goes to the designer, 30% goes to us and 30% goes to the supporters (split proportionately according to the number of elements owned by each).

The remaining 10% is set aside for our affiliate programme...
